Alice Eve from Star Trek Into Darkness. It’s certainly beautifully looking and provides a mostly, fun, amusing adventure. Unfortunately, the actual mechanics of the film as a whole provides an inconsistent, disapointing follow up to director J.J. Abrams‘ 2009 series re-imagining. Into Darkness is full of entertaining scenes and compelling acting, but the story, execution, and its overall contruction are hollow and severely underdeveloped.

It may be excessive and overlong but remains an amusingly dark, disturbing tale as Bay shows the faintest of restraint while doubling down, indulging his boyish sense of humour. Mark Wahlberg and Anthony Mackie serve as solid comedic foils, but it’s Dwayne Johnson who truly steals the show as the well-meaning yet dim, Jesus loving, cocaine addled fitness freak member of the Sun Gym gang.
